Ñanta is an alternative education centre that works with child and adolescent workers (NATs): Shoeshine boys, paperboys, car cleaners, tomb cleaners, shopping bag carriers, travelling salesmen, etc. Ñanta is a non-profit making institution, which has been in existence for more than 4 years in Sucre (Bolivia). We work with a population of around 150 beneficiaries. Our lines of action are

* Food
* Education
* Health & hygiene
* Social work
* Culture (with music and culture workshops)
* Recreational activities (painting, crafts, trips and games)
* Sports activities

* Appreciation of the situation of the NATs in Sucre

The centre employs Bolivian educators and foreign and local volunteers. All this work is carried out thanks to support from Europe, people collected together in the network SoliNATs. They look for sponsors and donations from individuals or NGOs. The annual budget is around 50,000 US dollars.

Ñanta is a space of liberty where each one can come and participate, the only restriction being mutual respect. We don't require any registration. The child can integrate according to his own rhythm. The philosophy of the centre is not to count on generosity; the activities are based on the principle of exchange. For example, the children pay a symbolic sum for lunch (50 ctvs, the normal cost is 5Bs in the market of Sucre). The children share responsibilities with the educators in every area or in the dining room. They are within the organisation of the centre, in the general assemblies: they participate in the big decisions of the centre, that is to say the political orientation.
