The Rainbow Community Excellence Center is the largest project of Charity Travel. Located near the shores of Lake Victoria and Kenya's third largest town of Kisumu, it serves a rural community by providing them a range of services. At the core of Rainbow's activities is orphan care.

It was built in December 2009 / January 2010 and is currently managed by Phillip Omondi Ogol.

I had a great time living at Rainbow, and helping them with grass roots projects. Life is really good there, and it is incredibly rewarding actually starting up something that creates true independence and sustainability.

After a little more than 2 years, I have visited the Rainbow Centre again. There weren't much funds available, so the Centre couldn't be finished. However, Phillip, the manager, has mobilized the local youth in "Bunges" and has a good standing within the larger community. It is great to see that we have come back at the right time to make the Rainbow Centre work. I do recommend this to foreign volunteers with overflowing creativity and ideas - this is a place where you can put it into practice without bureaucracy.
