The Hope Disability Centre in the tiny village of Wayil, north of Srinagar, has been helping children and adults with disabilities for over 10 years. They concentrate their efforts on helping  families in remote villages who struggle with disability. The most typical causes of disability here include polio (yes, still), rickets, cerebral palsy, and birth defects of many kinds. Help includes physical therapy, assistance in obtaining government aid, prosthetic and orthotic aids, and corrective surgery. Volunteers with medical skills are welcomed for work relating to clients, and volunteers with office skills are welcomed for work related to the website, newsletter, annual report, photos, and building maintenance. A separate self contained flat on the property overlooking the Sindh River has been built for volunteers.
