Marianne Heredge

Based in Kathmandu, I run a small UK registered charity, Rural Assistance Nepal (RAN) www.rannepal.org that sponsors anumber of teachers' salaries and a couple of midwives who work at a remote government healthpost.

Money raised by the charity primarily pays salaries, with some smaller projects that includesetting up school libraries, getting computers for schools and help with medicines in the remote areas. Being small and being on the spotensures that every penny raised is spent carefully and there are no overheads (other than bank charges to transfer the money to Nepal).

RAN also helps volunteers who want to help at schools or healthposts and hospitals in rural and remote areas of Nepal. Volunteers need to be self-funding (and self-reliant). RAN provides information and helps arrange where to go, but doesn't offer any special services (but doesn't charge anything either).
